Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is an effective, non-surgical approach for the treatment of spider veins and certain types of varicose veins, commonly used on legs and ankles.
Sclerotherapy is performed using an FDA-cleared solution delivered via a superfine needle and a series of micro-injections eliminating unwanted vessels. By injecting the affected area with a special ‘sclerosing’ solution, the lining of the vein walls shrink and collapse. This reduced blood flow diminishes the appearance of red and blue surface veins.
Cosmetic improvement is visible within a few weeks of treatment.
Sclerotherapy is suitable for all skin types, including darker-skinned patients and anyone looking for visible relief from spider veins.
A consultation will allow us to determine whether sclerotherapy is the best treatment option for your problem area(s). Insurance will not cover the cost of cosmetic treatment or treatment of non-symptomatic spider veins. Most cases require a series of sessions scheduled a few weeks apart, with little to no disruption to your normal activities.
WHAT IS ASCLERA® (PRONOUNCED A SKLER AH)?
Asclera® (polidocanol) Injection is a prescription medicine that is used in a procedure called sclerotherapy and is administered by a healthcare provider.
HOW DOES ASCLERA® WORK?
Asclera® is a sclerosing agent that is injected into the vein. It works by damaging the endothelium, the cells lining the inside of blood vessels. This causes blood platelets and cellular debris to attach to the lining of the vessels. Eventually, cellular debris and platelets cause the blood vessel to clot. Over time, the clotted vein will be replaced with tissue.
